7 Years!

Aaron

7 years ago, we brought Aaron home from the hospital. It’s so trite, but the time has flown by in the blink of an eye. I remember bringing this tiny baby home earlier than we’d expected, just excited that Jason had managed to get diapers and put the swing together while we were in the hospital. He left for Iraq 6 weeks later and I learned how to fly solo. Aaron was such an easy baby. Ok, a little structured, but that worked for us. He has been such a joy for these seven years. So, Aaron, this is for you:

My Little Love,
Well, I guess you’re not that little anymore, are you? I look at you now with my blond hair and your daddy’s green eyes and I am so humbled. You are the best of both of us, and you are a blessing that I never knew I would have. You kept me sane and grounded while dad was at war. Twice. Little do you know that we’re up for round 3. You taught me what it meant to put someone else first in all things. You’re so incredibly smart! You continuously wow me with the crazy knowledge that comes out of your head, or when you tell the neighbor that he’s as “fast as a puma.” Oh, Aaron, you’re so priceless. You’re the perfect firstborn, and your little brothers are so lucky to have you to look up to. Sometimes I think about the man you’ll become and I get a little overwhelmed about the responsibility of leading you there, but I know that with your heart and spirit, you’ll find your way. I think of the things you have seen, and I hope you know what a lucky little guy you are! Not many 7 year-olds can say that they have been through the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles and walked through the footsteps of Kings. You have a family that is simply crazy about you, and so many advantages! I can only pray that you use these to grow into the best man you can be. I am so very thankful to be along for the ride. I would dream about what you would look like, what you would be like while I was pregnant with you, and all I can say is that you have far exceeded all of my wildest dreams. Thank you for choosing me to be your mommy, Aaron Jason. Happy Birthday baby.
