So yesterday marked our ten year anniversary. You know the saying, “Time Flies When You’re Having Fun?” I guess that’s how I feel. I look at this remarkable man, and I can’t believe that I’ve been so blessed to be able to spend the last ten years of my life with him. Jason’s been with me for 1/3 of my life, and I have to say, it’s been the best 1/3.
I think back to ten years ago. We were so young, and we both came from such different places. He saved me in so many different ways. Not to sound trite, but everyone said it wouldn’t work. I’m pretty sure there were bets going down at our wedding as to how long we’d last. Well, PPPPFFFFTTTT! It’s ten years and we’re still wild about each other.
I think one thing that makes us so strong is that we did start out so early. We’ve been there for the major events in each other’s lives. We’ve grown up together. It’s been 10 years, and we’ve survived deployments, landmines (literally), pcs’ing a few times, flight school, and the birth of our 4 boys. But that doesn’t mean I take it for granted. I remember a friend of ours saying that we’ve been together so long that we’ve made it, yet I don’t feel that way. I feel like we make it every day. Everyday we watch our tongues when sharp words itch. Every day we see the best in one another. Every day we both look for the little things that make a difference to each other. Every day we take the time to just enjoy one another.
Basically, I just feel blessed. Blessed to have this man as my husband. I feel so lucky that after ten years, I still get super excited to hear he’s off work early and I get to have him home. He’s the first thing I tell the Lord I’m thankful for in my prayers each night, and he’s my first thought when I wake in the morning. Oh, and he’s always the hottest guy in the room…. How the heck did I manage to get that??? 🙂 Somebody up there must really like me! But really…. how did I find this guy who puts up with my need to get the new Harry Potter book at midnight? I can never find my i.d. card… or my keys… or my cell phone…. or, well, you get the idea. But he just sighs and waits for me to locate whatever it is that I have misplaced. It takes a very special man to put up with all of my … well, crap.
Okay, it’s time to get back to packing for our next adventure!
Thanks for a great first decade baby, I can’t wait to see where the next ones lead us!
