Ah yes… The sun is shining, the grass is green and the high temp is… 67? What? Oh yeah, baby. Welcome to Canada. Or at least we’re 30 miles inside the NY border. But really, other than the oddly cool weather, summer is great.
I love the first few days; waking up with no deadline for school buses, no haggling for homework. I love watching our children play in the backyard from the kitchen window while I battle the constant dish battle. I love that when we go to sleep at night, we have all five of our children sleeping in our home. It’s a peaceful feeling that we don’t get that often, and I relish it.
But Good Lord, the FOOD! It’s an adjustment to go to everyone being here for every meal and every snack. I swear, I spend the majority of my time in the kitchen, either making a meal/snack, or cleaning up after one. It amazes me that just a few years ago I could only manage macaroni and cheese, and now I cook like a pro. Well, kind of. 😉 I’ve never seen kids eat so much! We went to dinner with my parents last week, and Aaron ate a full apetizer, a full entree, a full desert, some of Jason’s desert, and then asked for more french fries, as well as asking if he could drink a vat of pancake syrup? … Sheesh. It makes me nervous for the years where we have 4 teenage boys. You know, when our groccery bill will match our mortgage.
So here we are at Summer. Long days and weekends away, just trying to cram every family moment in before Jason leaves us. It’s bittersweet, but we’re just keeping in the moment, and enjoying what time we have. But so far, loving upstate NY!
Oh, and our little city boy bought a john deere tractor… I’ll send pics out later. ha!
